The Cross Island Line (CRL) will be Singapore’s eighth and longest fully underground MRT line, stretching over 50km. It will link key hubs including Jurong Lake District, Punggol Digital District, and the Changi region—improving connectivity across the east, west, and northeast.

The CRL will feature eight interchange stations, giving commuters more route options and reducing travel times.

CRL Phase 1 (CRL1) covers 29km with 12 stations, serving areas like Loyang, Pasir Ris, Tampines, Defu, Hougang, and Ang Mo Kio. Over 100,000 households will benefit, with improved access to parks like Changi Beach and Bishan-Ang Mo Kio. CRL1 is under construction and set to open by 2030.

CRL Phase 2 (CRL2) adds another 15km and six stations. Environmental studies are complete, and public feedback is ongoing.

Punggol residents can look forward to the CRL – Punggol Extension, a 7.3km link connecting Pasir Ris and Tampines North directly to Punggol and Sengkang. Construction is underway, with completion targeted by 2032.

With the CRL, getting around Singapore—especially from Punggol—will be faster, easier, and more convenient.

🚧 Punggol Road Realignment Underway to Support Future Transport Upgrades

Motorists and pedestrians in Punggol can expect changes to their usual routes starting 22 June 2025, as part of a major traffic realignment to support upcoming infrastructure developments.

The cross junction between Punggol Place and Punggol Central, located near Waterway Point, will be split into two separate junctions. This temporary traffic arrangement will remain in place until end-2028, enabling construction works for the Punggol Interchange Station on the Cross Island Line – Punggol Extension (CRL).

What to Expect:

  • 🚦 A redesigned traffic flow with two smaller junctions in place of the current cross junction.
  • 🚗 Revised motorist routes to accommodate realigned roads.
  • 🚶‍♀️ Updated pedestrian paths with clear markings and signage to guide foot traffic safely.
  • 📍 Signage and road markings will be installed to ensure road users can navigate the area confidently.

This effort is part of broader infrastructure upgrades in the northeast region, including the Punggol Road realignment, which aims to improve long-term connectivity while accommodating future rail developments. The new Punggol Interchange Station will offer seamless transfers between the North East Line and the upcoming Cross Island Line.

Authorities are urging all road users to stay alert, follow signs, and plan extra travel time during the transition. These works, while temporarily disruptive, are crucial in shaping a better-connected, future-ready Punggol.
