The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) has officially broken ground on the new Punggol Marine Fire Post (PMFP), marking a major milestone in strengthening emergency response capabilities in Punggol and Singapore’s northeast region.

The groundbreaking ceremony was held earlier today, with Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Trade and Industry Mr Gan Kim Yong gracing the event as Guest of Honour.

Strengthening Emergency Response for Punggol Northshore

The Punggol Marine Fire Post is an integrated land-and-sea emergency facility, designed to enhance SCDF’s ability to respond swiftly to both land-based and maritime incidents. Once operational, the PMFP will significantly improve response times for residents in Punggol Northshore, while extending marine emergency coverage across the entire East Johor Straits within 45 minutes.

The facility will house a comprehensive suite of land and sea-based emergency assets, reinforcing SCDF’s operational readiness as Punggol continues to grow as a key residential and lifestyle hub.

Supporting Punggol’s Rapid Development

Scheduled for completion by end 2027, the PMFP comes at a critical time as the Punggol region undergoes rapid transformation. New residential precincts, transport infrastructure, major developments, and increased maritime activities in the East Johor Straits have created evolving emergency response needs.

The new fire post will play a vital role in supporting the safety of the community as Punggol Northshore, Punggol Digital District, and surrounding waterfront areas continue to develop.

Sustainable and Community-Friendly Design

In line with SCDF’s commitment to environmental sustainability, the Punggol Marine Fire Post will incorporate energy-efficient and water-saving features, including solar photovoltaic panels to reduce energy consumption and water-efficient fittings to minimise water usage.

The facility has also been thoughtfully designed with community-friendly features, ensuring it complements the recreational and lifestyle character of the Punggol Northshore district rather than disrupting it.

Partnership with Outward Bound Singapore

The PMFP is being developed in close partnership with Outward Bound Singapore (OBS), part of the National Youth Council (NYC). This collaboration will see the shared use of jetty infrastructure and facilities, optimising land and sea space while supporting both emergency operations and youth development programmes.

A Safer and More Resilient Punggol

Today’s groundbreaking ceremony underscores SCDF’s continued commitment to strengthening both land and marine emergency response capabilities. When completed, the Punggol Marine Fire Post will contribute to a safer, more resilient Punggol, providing enhanced protection for residents, maritime users, and the wider northeast region of Singapore.
